The Swimmer, 2016
Artist: Diana Greene
About the Artwork: "The Swimmer" is from the series, Proof + Disappearance. For the past decade I’ve focused my lens on creating scenes in which women are caught in the act of moving, marching, floating, coming or leaving. Transition interests me. Finding movement inside a still frame does too. What I aim to capture is the paradox that photographs provide proof of what disappears. Proof + Disappearance is a collection that reflects my abiding desire to create as a means into discovery, metaphor, and the present moment. The image is inspired by the short story of the same name by John Cheever, who mastered magical realism set in my hometown of Westchester County, New York.
